Pattie Fitzgerald and Keeping Your Kids Safe
Last week, I got to sit down (over iChat) and have a conversation with Pattie Fitzgerald, the safety expert from Checklist Mommy's viral post on Tricky People. As I've already said, this post is required reading for parents and I knew talking with Pattie would lead to even more great information and insight on how to keep our kids safe.
I was right. Over almost a half an hour of discussion, Pattie shared her Top Ten Play-It-Safe Rules and red flags, and answered questions I had about age-specific rules and behaviors. It was awesome and I know you will benefit from her wisdom as much as I did.
Unfortunately, we did have some technical difficulties in the beginning so the video starts about two minutes into our discussion after Pattie had told me a little about her background and was explaining why the stranger danger approach doesn't work.
NO Trespassing - This is MY Body Giveaway
Pattie has generously agreed to give one Salt & Nectar reader a copy of her book NO Trespassing - This is MY Body. The book serves as an excellent tool to begin this important conversation with your children and also contains a parents guide to continue to teach your children about how to protect themselves.
To enter, simply leave a comment on this post and tell us what you learned or liked about Pattie's rules and tips.
As always, we will use Random.org to select the winners. The contest will run from today until next Wednesday, September 19th at 12PM PST.
No purchase is necessary. Odds of winning are based on number of entries received (duplicate entries will be deleted and only one will be counted). This giveaway is open to US residents 18 and older only.

I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to this topic. No babysitters for us, no day care/preschool, etc. because I am so frightened my child wlll get molested. I guess I've watched too many documentaries on the topic... anyway, watching this video really made me feel more at ease. I like the thought of being the "boss" of your body & that "uh-oh" feeling. Those are two really great ideas! I can't wait to start talking to my 2 year old about this. Maybe it'll make me relax enough to find a babysitter!
As a former teacher of children with Autism and a mom, I am so grateful for this approach. I wish I would have had this book as a tool during my teaching days. I will be sharing it with my "mommy friends" and the families of my daycare kids. Thanks so much for posting!
