Sarah's Favorite Things

One of the many positives about blogging is that it creates an instant community between readers, writers, and local organizations. Thanks to this community, I've been the lucky guest at a number of great events in Los Angeles over the past two weeks where I was introduced to some favorite things (and people) that I want to introduce you to. And because no Friday list would be complete without a few random and entertaining bits to get your weekend off on the right foot, I've thrown those in for good measure too.

A night with fellow writers Christina Simon {Beyond the Brochure}, Jennifer Brandt {Perfectly Disheveled}, and Robinne Lee.

Christina Simon of Beyond the Brochure hosted a night dedicated to "Education Resources Moms Can Use," where we learned about the smart and innovative programs run by Launch Education (a tutoring company that focuses on academic mentorship and holistic learning), The Kelter Center (a program dedicated to "learning how to learn" and encouraging students to approach things per Dweck's mindset theory), LA Private School Guide (a source for parents who are transitioning kids to private high schools in LA), and Project Knapsack (a non-profit, global pen pal and backpack exchange program between students in the US and Africa that promotes cultural awareness, literacy, and philanthropy).

Actress/Writer/Producer/Mom Robinne Lee is simply lovely. She's brilliant (earned a law degree too), down to earth, beautiful, talented, and all-around cool (nevermind that she's an quadruple infinite threat).

When I moved to LA with a nine-month-old baby, it was hard to find a community of moms with little ones of the same age. The newly launched Club MomMe would have solved all my woes.

Finding a worthy outfit in my closet is like finding a High Heel in a Haystack, which is why every mom like me can benefit from Robin's keen eye for fashion (and her addictive and inspiring Pinterest boards).

Moms with sons, are you tired of the macho v. mama's boy dichotomy? This mom is.

This will be the death of me (waist and wallet included). But I wouldn't argue if you withdrew one for me.

The number one baby shower gift is now available upon a click of the mouse—our favorite patemm launched its Web site this week.
